POEM: The Hard-working Old Man

THE HARD-WORKING OLD MAN

He comes in to work early every day

He leaves late in the afternoon

For 40 odd years he has worked in this building

Keeping order, maintaining structure

He always seems to be on some mission

He almost seems to love his job

Despite the fact that it doesn’t seem too exciting to anyone else

To see it is almost inspiring

It makes you wonder what went wrong with you

This man is nearing 60

Yet he works with the passion that a 20 year old should possess

And if an old man nearing 60

Can do that

Then we are all witless worms

Shits of the earth

And we deserve not an ounce of respect
